Charley Hull is up to some fun and games at the AIG Women’s Open.
On Tuesday afternoon while speaking to the media about the $10 million prize pool for the tournament’s 50th anniversary, Hull told a story about pranking her long-time caddie, Adam Woodward.
The English pro went to a prank shop in Blackpool on Monday night and bought lottery tickets and brought them to the players lounge the next morning before the tournament at Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Course.
Woodward selected an $100,000 scratch card and lost his mind, believing he won, as Hull recorded him.
“He’s taken his hat off. He’s taken his glasses off,” she said at the podium. “He’s literally running around the players lounge sayin’, ‘I’ve won $100,000. I’m taking today off.’ His face looks so happy. He was sweating. He was trembling. He couldn’t believe his luck, and we had to tell him it was fake and he nearly quit the job.”
She went on to share the video to her Instagram Story after it was posted in a reel by Sweet Spot Golf.
Hull called the moment “absolutely hilarious” and went on to find parts of the video to show the reporters.
She showed a photo Woodward with his mouth wide open in shock after scratching the ticket.
“He’s like high-fiving everybody,” she added. “He’s so funny. He’s like ‘Swear to god I can’t believe I’ve won $100K.’”
Hull admitted a part of her felt bad and that she needs to watch her back moving forward after pulling the prank off.
“I don’t know what he’s got in store for me,” she said.
In the aftermath, Hull posted a photo of her and a frowning Woodward on her Instagram story.
Starting Thursday, the 30-year-old will be competing for the enhanced prize pot, which has tripled since the last time the tournament was held at the course in Lancashire, England eight years ago.
“I’m not going to lie, that’s why I think I play so well in the majors,” she said of the prize money. “Even if I’m quite a lot behind I am like, make loads of birdies today, extra dollars, for me and him to get.”
Hull has nine titles to her resume, including three wins on the LPGA Tour and five more on the Ladies European Tour. In February, she had a one-stroke victory at the PIF Saudi Ladies International with a 19-under-par total.
She tees off on Thursday at 8:26 a.m. ET.
