Charlotte Church’s luxury Welsh retreat is to close its doors for the foreseeable future after a drop in bookings and being at ‘the mercy of the economy’

Charlotte Church‘s rural retreat is set for a temporary closure due to an “unsustainable” drop in bookings. The lavish Welsh abode called The Dreaming announced it will close for a period of time after being left what it called at “the mercy of the economy” .

They said they were facing the same tribulations that other other small businesses are coming up against and made the tough decision to close its doors. The property, near Rhayader, Mid Wales, will be shutting for an unclear amount of time from December.

The establishment announced the news on social media, saying the economic situation had led to a severe drop in bookings. That had also led to a number of alarming increases in the cost of running a business.

They said: “Our bookings track the deepening cost of living crisis of the last few years, and most recently the war in Iran and subsequent economic shocks corresponds directly with a severe drop in bookings. We are a casualty of the massive cut in people’s discretionary spending that has been widely reported since these events.”

The retreat went on to say the had achieved “far more than we ever thought possible” over the years, stating they have helped people who have been grieving as well as those at a crossroads.

They also say they helped exhausted people, and people disenchanted with life since they opened. The Dreaming had offered a pay what you can scheme to its visitors. NHS workers were also able to enjoy the retreats for free.

The statement went on: “We have nothing but deep gratitude for everyone who has walked through The Dreaming’s doors, and been a part of our wonderful human and more-than-human community. That was always what this was about – reconnecting people to nature, and reigniting their sense of belonging to the web of life.”

They stopped short of calling it a day permanently. Instead, they labelled it a “hibernation” so they could reassess their options going forward.

Charlotte purchased Rhydoldog House for £1.5 million to transform it into the wellbeing centre. Sixteen guests can make the most of the eight spacious rooms and sprawling gardens and come to “reduce their chance of coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes”, so the retreat claims.

The retreat’s transformation was shown on her show Charlotte Church’s Dream Build. In one episode the singer took on her father’s advice and puts her foot down with the team of builders.

She said: “These boys need to listen to me now, it takes quite a few times of me stating what I want.

“People keep going off like spiders and then doing their own thing a little bit and I’m a bit like, ‘well, I’m sorry gents but it’s getting down to it now, and I am the boss and I am paying your wages!'”
