Cornerback Mansoor Delane logged 27 tackles and an interception across five starts, while rookie defensive tackle Peter Woods added 13 tackles and a half-sack in seven games to anchor Kansas City’s defense. Behind their contributions, the Chiefs built a top-tier run defense, allowing just 96.3 rushing yards per game this season.

However, following a frustrating loss to the Denver Broncos, Kansas City now faces a sudden depth crisis. The latest defensive injuries force Kansas City to shuffle its personnel ahead of the matchup against the New York Jets.

Heading into Week 9, the Kansas City defense faces a sudden roster crunch as official injury reports confirm three key starters will sit out the upcoming matchup against New York.

The Chiefs confirmed the status in their Week 9 update: “Nikko Remigio is questionable to play Sunday against the New York Jets. Peter Woods, Mansoor Delane, and Omarr Norman-Lott are out,” the team announced. Woods is dealing with a neck injury, Delane has a shoulder issue and Norman-Lott is listed with a knee injury.

Andy Reid said Woods and Delane are progressing, but neither will play Sunday. “Both those two… are making progress, and that’s a positive thing, but they’re going to be out this game. It’s just a matter of getting back and making sure they’re strong; both of them, it’s a strength thing right now,” Reid said.

Delane’s absence removes a first-round corner from the secondary. Kansas City selected the LSU product sixth overall in 2026. He has one interception and five pass breakups.

Woods was also a first-round pick. His 13 tackles, half-sack, and pass breakup have supported the interior rotation.

Norman-Lott’s absence further reduces the rotation and places more work on Chris Jones and Khyiris Tonga. Remigio has 274 yards on 10 kick returns and 70 yards on 12 punt returns, giving Kansas City field-position value.

The Chiefs enter after a 28-24 loss in Denver, their second defeat of the season after a 5-0 start. They allowed 11 penalties for 105 yards, and personal fouls helped Denver score 18 points.

Sunday’s game at Arrowhead will test Steve Spagnuolo’s rotation. The Chiefs need replacements to protect the run defense, limit big plays, and avoid short fields.

Their communication will matter against a Jets offense that has scored 58 points since Week 7.
