KARIMNAGAR: Choppadandi MLA and DCC president Medipally Satyam has sought a comprehensive inquiry into private hospitals in Karimnagar, alleging that several are operating without qualified staff and basic infrastructure.
In a letter to district collector Chitra Mishra on Thursday, he raised concerns over patient safety, stating that healthcare had turned into a profit-driven activity affecting the poor.
The demand follows an incident on Wednesday night at a private hospital in Karimnagar where welfare minister Adluri Laxman Kumar was briefly trapped after a lift malfunction. The minister later directed the district medical and health officer to take action and review the hospital’s permissions.
Citing the incident, Satyam alleged that several hospitals lacked essential facilities such as functional lifts, wheelchairs and hygienic wards. He claimed that some establishments were being run by individuals without medical backgrounds and were employing unqualified staff.
He also alleged that patients were being subjected to unnecessary tests and high medical bills.
The MLA urged the district administration to act against hospitals violating safety norms and ensure that only qualified professionals provide treatment. He requested the formation of a special committee to inspect private medical establishments and called for strict action, including cancellation of licences, against those found violating norms.
