HYDERABAD: Members of various Christian denominations and organisations demanded adequate representation for their community members in the Legislative Council, local bodies, corporations and welfare sectors.
During a media interaction on Friday, representatives from Church of South India, Telangana Catholic Bishops Council, Telugu Baptist Churches, other heads of Churches, independent pastors and their fellowships expressed this demand
They said the Christian community had a large presence in all 119 Assembly segments in Telangana and certain estimates suggested that Christian voters had the potential to influence electoral outcomes in approximately 25 to 30 of them.
Fr Raju Alex of Telangana Catholic Bishops Council said: “We urge the state government to nominate at least two Christian leaders to the Telangana Legislative Council as MLCs and provide adequate representation in local bodies, state corporations, commissions and welfare institutions, like chairman, vice chairman or directors.”
