Christopher Reeve’s son, Will, has shared that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer this year. The Good Morning America anchor said that he was left “stunned” after his diagnosis, initially believing that his lump would be “nothing”.
Will, whose mother is the late Dana Reeve, said he noticed a small, tender lump on one of his testicles in April while showering. His wife, Amanda, later encouraged him to seek medical advice, as well as an ultrasound scan.
Will said that his diagnosis and treatment brought back memories of his mum, Dana, undergoing treatment for lung cancer. Dana tragically died aged 44 in March 2006.
In May this year, the news anchor underwent an orchidectomy to remove the cancerous testicle and used a sperm bank to ensure that he and his wife, Amadna, could have children in the future. Speaking to People, Nick said that he is currently cancer-free and had been inspired to speak publicly by his parents’ example.
He said: “I hadn’t had surgery since I got my tonsils out at 5. So I was more nervous about the unknown of the surgery rather than the overwhelming realisation that I would be losing an essential part of my body forever.”
