Claude Lemieux was heartbroken and lived with an injustice: His friend shared
Rejean Tremblay, a longtime Montreal hockey columnist and insider, who has known Claude Lemieux for nearly 30 years, has recently sat for an interview with the New York Post, wherein he revealed that his friend was living with an ‘injustice’ which heavily burdened him. The injustice here referred to the fact that Claude was never inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, even after leading the Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils and Colorado Avalanche throughout his career, being the ninth best playoff scorer of all time and winning four Stanley Cups.
Claude, who was known as a ‘tough guy’, was deeply sensitive to rejection, as shared by Claude’s friend. The sense of rejection ran deeper than anybody could have imagined, as Tremblay said. According to Tremblay, Claude once told him a story about his frustration when he was sent to a minor league in 1985 after his NHL season, when he broke his car’s windshield and drove with it for 100 miles, and even refused to stay at the apartment the team rented for him. Well, according to Tremblay, Claude was carrying this in his heart. To quote him:
“He always lived this as an injustice, a heavy burden to bear. The sense of rejection ran deeper than one might have imagined. He took it very hard.”
Claude Lemieux reportedly went 10 years without speaking to his kids
Claude Lemieux was spotted 3 days before his passing news surfaced, and according to Rejean Tremblay, he might have felt triggered with the overwhelming emotion, witnessing the surge of love, while carrying the torch at Bell Centre before Game 3 of the NHL conference finals against the Carolina Hurricanes. As per Tremblay, this might have reawakened the old pain and old suffering in him. Sources claimed that Claude went some 10 years without speaking to his kids.
