Claude Lemieux’s Final Video Three Days Before His Death Leaves Fans Emotional, ‘Similar To Kyle..’

Just three days before his sudden death, NHL legend, Claude Lemieux was standing in front of thousands of hockey fans who cheered for him at the Montreal Bell Center. He looked emotional, energetic, happy, and comfortable as he carried the ceremonial torch before Game 3 of the Eastern Conference final. But the happy morning has turned into a heartbreaking memory after his death at 60.

Claude Lemieux’s final public appearance has left NHL fans emotional

Claude Lemieux appeared in public for the last time on May 25, 2026. He came onto the ice at Bell Center in Montreal ahead of the Canadiens’ playoff matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes. In turn, the four-times Stanley Cup winner got a loud standing ovation from the fans as he proudly carried the ceremonial torch for the pregame festivities. Needless to say, the appearance has become one of the most emotional moments of the night for long-time Canadiens supporters. Carolina Hurricanes goaltender later mentioned that Claude himself had contacted him before the game to inform him that he had been selected for the ceremonial role. 

For those unaware, Claude was one of the most iconic playoff figures. In fact, at one point, fans began cheering loudly for Claude, and he smiled and acknowledged the crowd. Meanwhile, the video clip featuring Claude from the ceremony has gone viral, and fans have expressed disbelief. One fan penned, “This was only three days ago. What happened to him? Rest in peace.” Another user commented, “Not even three days, it’s very possible he passed away last night, and the announcement was put out today.” One internet user even compared it to NASCAR driver,  Kyle Busch’s sudden death and wrote:

“Very similar to Kyle Busch. Obviously, Kyle had underlying reasons, but he was at events on Tuesday, his body crashed on Wednesday, and gone on Thursday.”

What caused Claude Lemieux’s sudden death at 60?

The NHL Alumni Association has officially confirmed that Claude Lemieux passed away on May 28, 2026. The news has shocked the entire Hockey community. Initially, no official cause of his death was publicly revealed. However, later a TMZ Sports reported that law enforcement sources claimed Claude died by suicide. According to reports, his family was concerned after he failed to return home.

Later, his son reportedly found him at a family-owned business property in Lake Park, Florida. The authorities from the nearby Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reportedly went to what was explained as a suicide attempt at the location. But Claude’s family has yet to speak on it.

Claude Lemieux is survived by his wife, Deborah, and their four children. His friends and family often noted that he was a different person in real life, in contrast to his aggressive approach during games. In fact, his wife, Deborah, allegedly described him as a gentle, easygoing person at home. Claude’s eldest son also followed in his father’s footsteps, entering the professional ranks of the NHL. Meanwhile, Claude had a glorious playoff career across 21 NHL seasons. He played 1215 regular-season games and scored 379 goals with 786 points. At the same time, he won four Stanley Cups in his career.
