Visakhapatnam: Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu on Saturday said cleanliness and environmental responsibility were closely linked to the nation’s development and called upon citizens to actively participate in government initiatives aimed at building a cleaner and healthier society.
The Union minister was speaking at the Swarna Andhra–Swachh Andhra programme held at Thoolugu village in Gara mandal of Srikakulam district. He attended the event along with local MLA Gondu Shankar and district officials.
During his visit, Ram Mohan Naidu inspected an Anganwadi centre and reviewed services being provided to children. He interacted with students and appreciated the use of technology in the Anganwadi system. The minister enquired about the digital monitoring application that enables parents, state authorities and central agencies to track children’s daily progress.
As part of the cleanliness drive, he joined sanitation workers in cleaning village roads and inspected a newly developed pond. He directed officials to prepare a comprehensive development plan for the water body. He also planted a sapling on a school campus and urged citizens to contribute to environmental protection.
The Union minister distributed seeds to farmers and reviewed drinking water facilities in the village. District Collector Swapnil Dinakar Pundkar briefed him on the water supply situation.
Addressing a public meeting later, Ram Mohan Naidu said the Andhra Pradesh government was according high priority to sanitation and child welfare. He described the Anganwadi-focused Swarna Andhra–Swachh Andhra programme as a positive initiative and said values inculcated during childhood played a crucial role in shaping responsible citizens.
“Just as a strong foundation is essential for a house, the values nurtured in childhood are vital for building a strong personality,” he said.
The Union minister said the country’s development ultimately depended on the cleanliness of its streets and villages. He added that the coalition government had provided “clean governance” over the past two years and ensured that welfare benefits reached beneficiaries in full.
