Vijayawada:Alliance partners Telugu Desam, Jana Sena and BJP are putting collective efforts to sweep the local body elections-2026. Telugu Desam national president and chief minister Chandrababu Naidu asked his party’s rank and file to be active in the election field.

Naidu has sought to combine social engineering with electoral considerations in the selection of candidates for the urban local body elections, saying the party had ensured equal opportunities for different social groups in proportion to their population.

Naidu said candidates were selected after considering public opinion and feedback from party cadres, with preference given to aspirants who secured more than 50 per cent support in opinion surveys. The 11 mayoral seats being contested by the TD have been allocated to candidates from 11 different social groups, he said.

The CM directed NDA leaders at the grassroots level to respect the interests of alliance partners and adhere to the coalition dharma. Strengthening the TD as well as the alliance was important, he said, asking leaders to explain to the aspirants who had been denied tickets as to why this was so, and resolve the related disputes amicably.

Naidu alleged that the YSR Congress was attempting to disturb law and order during the local body elections. He asked party leaders to closely monitor its activities, alert the government machinery and effectively counter any attempts to disrupt the polls. He called for unity among alliance partners to demonstrate their collective strength in the elections.

Meanwhile, Telugu Desam MP Sana Satish alleged that violence in Rayalaseema was being orchestrated at the direction of YSR Congress leaders in Tadepalli. Referring to incidents in Punganur and Pulivendula, he demanded the immediate arrest of Mithun Reddy after registering a criminal case against him. He also called for monitoring of YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s movements until the elections were completed.

BC welfare minister S Savitha accused the YSR Congress of targeting even its own workers and challenged Jagan Reddy and his party leaders to come upfront for a debate on the government’s development record.

Health minister, Satya Kumar Yadav, alleged that the opposition was resorting to violence because it lacked the confidence to seek votes on its development record. He accused the YSR Congress of obstructing the nominations process and claimed that the state government had mobilised substantial funds for urban development over the past two years.

TD MLA Dhulipalla Narendra released videos purportedly showing attacks by YSR Congress workers. He alleged that opposition cadres were attacking people near polling stations and pelting stones at police personnel to create law-and-order problems and blame the alliance government.
