Vijayawada:Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu held separate meetings with Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan and BJP state president P.V.N. Madhav on seat-sharing among the ruling alliance partners for the rural local body elections.
The talks come as the Telugu Desam, Jana Sena and BJP seek to reconcile competing claims from aspirants, prevent rebel entry and finalise allocations among the three parties. At the CM’s residence, they reviewed the latest election developments and the distribution of seats in the Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) elections.
Aspirants from all three alliance parties have already filed nominations in various constituencies, making it necessary for the leadership to resolve overlapping claims and ensure coordination.
After the meeting with Pawan Kalyan, Naidu met Madhav. The talks focused on the seats to be allotted to BJP candidates in the MPTC and ZPTC elections.
The alliance’s seat-sharing arrangement for the municipal elections was a reference point. Of the 123 seats distributed among the partners, Jana Sena was allotted 24 and the BJP nine, accounting for around 20 per cent and seven per cent of the total, respectively.
It remains unclear whether the same formula will be followed in the rural elections or whether allocations will be adjusted according to the parties’ local strength and political equations in individual constituencies.
Political circles are abuzz with reports that Pawan Kalyan sought a 30 per cent share for Jana Sena in the rural local body elections. Naidu said the distribution could be done based on the respective parties’ strength at the local level.
With the nomination process nearing its conclusion and candidates from alliance partners staking claims to the same seats, the leadership is seeking a mutually acceptable arrangement for the MPTC and ZPTC contests.
