Vijayawada:Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has sought financial assistance from the Centre for the infrastructure and development works being taken up in Andhra Pradesh for the Godavari Pushkarams 2027.

He also sought Central support for the proposed Amaravati Outer Ring Road, approval for the Visakhapatnam Metro and assistance for the proposed Beach Road project.

Naidu raised the issues during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday. They also discussed the Polavaram project, the Godavari-Cauvery river-linking proposal, agriculture, irrigation and the state’s economic situation.

Naidu said extensive arrangements were being made for the Godavari Pushkarams and expected devotees from the two Telugu states, across the country and abroad to attend the event. He requested financial assistance for development works being undertaken in connection with the Pushkarams.

The Chief Minister also explained the importance of the Godavari-Cauvery river link for water security and the progress of the southern states. He said the project would ensure adequate water availability to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Naidu pointed out that road networks and power grids had been developed across the country under NDA governments and said taking forward river-linking initiatives could pave the way for a national water grid.

He briefed Modi on the latest status of the Polavaram project and various development initiatives being implemented in Andhra Pradesh. He also explained the state’s agricultural situation, particularly the impact of deficient rainfall.

Naidu informed the Prime Minister that Andhra Pradesh had recorded a 53 per cent rainfall deficit due to the impact of El Nino, severely affecting the agricultural sector. He explained the measures being taken by the state government to mitigate the impact of drought and support agriculture.

The CM briefed Modi on the objectives of the Global Horticulture Hub recently launched at Madanapalle with the Centre’s support. He said the foundation had been laid for the Indian School of Agriculture, planned on the lines of the Indian School of Business.

Naidu also explained the proposed Amaravati Outer Ring Road and sought the Centre’s assistance. He sought central approval for the Visakhapatnam Metro and briefed Modi on the proposed Beach Road project.

During the meeting, Naidu congratulated Modi on completing 25 years in public life and conveyed his greetings and best wishes to the PM on behalf of the people of Andhra Pradesh.

Naidu said Modi was transforming India into a global power through foresight, clear goals, decisive action and effective governance. He appreciated the PM’s emphasis on cooperative federalism and making states partners in the journey towards Viksit Bharat.

He said Modi had enhanced India’s stature and credibility in international affairs.

Naidu also explained the objectives of the Swarna Andhra-2047 Vision, which seeks to ensure that the benefits of development reach all sections of society and drive Andhra Pradesh towards sustained growth.
