Vijayawada: Chief Minister and Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed ministers, MLAs, and coalition leaders to coordinate their efforts in ensuring the victory of alliance candidates in the forthcoming local body elections.
He wanted them to improve the alliance’s vote share compared to the 2024 assembly polls. During a teleconference with party ministers and MLAs on Saturday, Chandrababu Naidu said TDP has adopted a social engineering strategy to provide representation to different social groups in the local body polls. He underlined that 11 mayoral seats being contested by Telugu Desam have been allocated to candidates from 11 different social groups. The AP CM asked alliance leaders to uphold coalition principles at the grassroots level, work together, and set aside differences.
He emphasised that the victory of alliance-backed candidates must be ensured, whether in gram panchayats, mandal parishad territorial constituencies (MPTCs), zilla parishad territorial constituencies (ZPTCs) or municipalities.
Naidu said candidate selection has taken into account public opinion and views of party cadres. He asked leaders to visit their respective constituencies, strengthen coordination, and work towards achieving the alliance’s electoral target of increasing the victory margin. The TD national president asked alliance leaders to resolve disputes over candidate selection and other local issues amicably to prevent differences from affecting the alliance’s prospects. He accused YSRC of acting in ways that could disturb law and order during the local body elections. He asked ministers and MLAs to monitor the opposition party’s activities and keep the government machinery alert to avert potential trouble. He called on alliance leaders to counter what he described as YSRC’s conspiracies.
