Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would release Rs.262 crore to benefit 1,30,796 fishermen families under the “Matsyakarula Sevalo’ scheme for the second consecutive year at a programme in Thummalapenta village of Kavali mandal in Nellore district on Tuesday.
The Andhra Pradesh government is providing a financial aid of Rs.20,000 for each fishermen family as the marine fishing ban will be imposed every year for 61 days from April 15 to June 14, to avoid any trouble to the fishermen to sustain.
Last year, the state government provided Rs.243 crore that benefited 1.21 lakh fishermen families under the programme. This year too, an amount of Rs.262 crore to benefit 1.30 lakh fishermen families would be released. With this, the state government will be providing a total of Rs.505 crore to the fishermen families.
Earlier, the YSRC government used to provide Rs.10,000 for each fishermen family. The alliance government enhanced it to Rs.20,000.
Moreover, the state government is also providing financial relief to the fishermen’s families in case of any accidental death of fishermen when they go for marine fishing.
Accordingly, the state government released Rs.3.15 crore by settling 63 claims of accidental deaths in 2024-26 and released Rs.5.65 crore settling 113 pending claims in 2026-26.
In addition to these, the state government is also encouraging fishermen to take up seaweed culture to improve their sources of earnings.
The Chief Minister will leave from the camp office at 9.30am and reach Thummalapenta village at 10.30am. He will address the public meeting at 10.45am and release the amount to the fishermen under ‘Matsyakarula Savalo scheme. Later, he would interact with the fishermen families at 01.15pm and he hold a review meeting with the TD cadre at 2pm and reach Amaravati at 4.45pm.
Meanwhile, Chittoor collector Sumit Kumar announced that Naidu will visit Kuppam on May 20. He would arrive at Tumsi in Shantipuram mandal by a chopper at 11am, proceed to Kadapalli and participate in the Gangama Jatara celebrations at Prasanna Tirupati Gangamma temple in Kuppam. After returning to his residence at Kadapalli, he will leave for Bengaluru.
