CM Vijay Wants Retraction of Petrol Price Hike

Chennai: Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay led the State in urging the Union Government to roll back the sudden increase in prices of petroleum products that had affected various sections of people in the country.

Vijay said the prices of petrol and diesel that had gone up steeply by Rs 3 a litre was unacceptable. When the union public sector oil companies never reduced the prices of petrol and diesel when the international crude oil prices declined but pocketed the profits should not increase the rates now.

The hike had affected the poor more as it had led to an increase in the rate of essential commodities due to the cost of transportation going up several times, he said.

The Chief Minister also regretted the petrol and diesel price rise severely affecting the MSMEs impacting on the export of goods from the country.

Among the other leaders who wanted the roll back on the increase of petroleum products were AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, who said the increase in prices of cooking gas cylinders, commercial gas cylinders petrol and diesel had greatly affected the public.

TNCC president K Selvaperunthogai and PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss were also among those who criticized the government for the price hike.
