Hyderabad:The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has collected around 6 tonnes of floral puja material from three Ganesh immersion points, while the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) has collected another 5,480 kg, as civic bodies stepped up efforts to segregate and recycle flower offerings generated during the festival.
Pakka Organics team managed to collect the segregated fresh floral waste from the Indira Park dumping site on September 23 belonging to the GHMC. They could not continue later due to logistical issues. However, GHMC continued collecting the floral waste and sending it for composting, an official said.
Of the CMC’s collection, 4,000 kg came from IDL Lake in Kukatpally, while 1,500 kg was collected from Bairuni cheruvu in Bachupally and another 500 kg from Pragathinagar lake.
The 5,480 kg collected by the MMC was also gathered from immersion locations under its jurisdiction. The collected floral waste is being segregated and sent for recycling through Pakka Organics, which processes the flowers into eco-friendly products, including agarbattis and other pooja-related products.
