The Instagram page of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has crossed the official Bharatiya Janata Party account in follower count, becoming one of the most discussed political trends on Indian social media this week. As of Thursday CJP has 11.8 million Instagram followers, while the official BJP account has around 8.7 million followers. The page gained followers rapidly over the past few days through reels, memes and satirical political content.
The account was created by content creator Abhijeet Dipke and mainly posts content related to unemployment, competitive exams, paper leak issues and public reactions to politics in meme and short-video formats.
Despite the recent rise of the Cockroach Janta Party account, the Indian National Congress currently remains the most-followed political party account on Instagram in India with more than 13.3 million followers. The Aam Aadmi Party has around 2 million followers, while the Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress have follower counts below 1 million on the platform. The BJP remains India’s largest political party in terms of electoral presence and membership. According to party figures, BJP has over 18 crore registered members nationwide. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the party won 240 seats in Parliament as part of the NDA alliance.
In comparison, the Cockroach Janta Party currently functions only as an online satirical platform and has not announced any electoral participation. The page also released a mock manifesto and introduced online “party members” through short-form videos. Several hashtags linked to the account trended across Instagram and X during the week.
Political leaders including Akhilesh Yadav and Mahua Moitra reacted to the trend on social media, while screenshots comparing follower counts of different political party accounts were widely shared online.Not only CJP but there are more parties which are coming from this movement as a part of satire such as Revolutionary Party of Cockroaches, Cockroach Seva Party and so on.
