Coleen Rooney is said to be the mastermind behind husband Wayne Rooney’s on-air transformation as he enjoys his punditry role for the BBC during the FIFA World Cup

Coleen Rooney is watching on as husband Wayne Rooney continues to shine in a different way this World Cup. The former England star has switched his on-pitch antics for in-depth analysis from the studios in recent years and has been a big part in this summer’s BBC team.

And his own appearance has come in for scrutiny as his new clean-shaven look surprised fans. While many question why he has undergone such a transformation, it’s said wife Coleen is the driving force.

The 40-year-old seems to have found his footing in punditry after a tough spell in the dugouts as a manager following the end of his playing career.

A source told The Sun that Coleen was aware her husband wasn’t happy with his appearance. They claimed that the former I’m A Celebrity star knew the importance of the punditry role for Wayne and put him on a diet and exercise regime prior to his flight to the US.

The source said: “He’s 40 now, so it felt like now or never. She has been encouraging him to work out with her in their home gym. They also have a PT who has been round to help him.

“Then there has been facials and various other treatments to make sure he’s looking his best and, of course, they went on a big shopping spree to make sure he looked super smart.”

And it appears her input has worked. Viewers have been taking to social media to voice their thoughts, with one user saying: “Rooney suddenly looks like a 30 year old.”

Coleen has watched on as her own stock continues to rise in recent years. But in May, a source claimed she “fears her brands will be wrecked” as her feud with Rebekah Vardy still rumbles on.

It comes after the Vardys released their own fly-on-the-wall show this year. “Coleen doesn’t need Becky’s show airing at the moment,” our source said at the time. “She doesn’t want the court case being dragged up again and her name being on the front page of the newspapers.”

Coleen documented her side of events in the pair’s court case. She released the Disney+ documentary series Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story in 2023.

In the show, Coleen told how she was able to gather the evidence she felt she required regarding the leaked stories but didn’t anticipate being sued for her revelations.

She confessed to Woman’s Hour that the court case was “one of the toughest times I’ve had”. She said: “I would never in a million years have thought a court case could come from that.

“I did not want to go to court and I was terrified because I’ve never been in a courtroom before.”
