Colin Firth’s ex-wife Livia Giuggioli has barred Gwyneth Palthrow from her Italian farm over the star’s appearance in an ad for a luxury property company in Israel
Colin Firth’s ex-wife Livia Giuggioli says she has “just cancelled” Gwyneth Paltrow after the Goop mogul appeared in an advert for an Israeli property company as the country’s war with Palestine rages on.
The 53-year-old Oscar winner faced an online backlash after her commercial for luxury real estate development 51 park, a building said to be miles from where Palestinians are being killed and displaced, went viral.
It was reportedly filmed in New York but led to many social media users accusing Gwyneth of supporting genocide – with some even dubbing it ‘Gwynocide’.
Now Livia Giuggioli Firth, an activist who was married to Bridget Jones star Colin for 22 years, has joined the backlash against Gwyneth. And she certainly didn’t mince her words when it came to talking about the Hollywood star.
In a video posted on Instagram that has also gone viral, the 56-year-old said that not only was she publicly “cancelling” Gwyneth – but she had also pulled the plug on the actor’s upcoming visit to her Italian farm.
A furious Livia fumed: “I just cancelled Gwyneth Paltrow. She was supposed to come to the farm in a couple of weeks time on a tour, a soil-to-fork farm experience. And we just cancelled her because what she did is completely unacceptable.”
Urging others in Hollywood to take action against the war in Gaza, she went on: “I actually have an appeal for everyone in Hollywood, who for so many years cancelled people who were speaking out about the genocide.
“Even me. I remember being at the Green Fashion Awards [which Livia founded] and I was told by lots of agents that you shouldn’t post on Instagram what you do, your activism. And I was like ‘f off’, of course I’m going to keep speaking.
“Now, I hope the reverse is going to happen – that Hollywood and people in Hollywood are going to start cancelling those who actually support the genocide.
“Because it’s not even being silent. There is no excuse for being silent anymore – and many, many people are silent. So let’s not even go to the, ‘If you’re silent, you’re complicit argument.'”
Addressing Gywneth’s ad, Livia continued: “She actually actively promoted the genocide, so it’s totally complicit.
“Making an ad for a luxury condo is as disgusting as it can be for someone with privilege. It’s like how detached are you from reality? You’re either so detached that you need to be cancelled, because you live in another world.
‘Or you’re actually a really, really nasty person. Or you are stupid. Which of the three are you, Gwyneth Paltrow? And definitely you are not coming to our farm!”
Fans were equally disgusted in the comments, with one writing: “Well done Livia for cancelling her booking and for letting the whole world know that this is not how to behave. We don’t tolerate Gwynociders! End of!”
Another posted: “Brilliantly spoken Livia. Thank you for speaking out. Hoping very much that others will follow.” While a third added: “Bravissima I wish more people had the courage of their convictions like this. What Gwyneth Paltrow has done in that advert is unacceptable and everyone should make that clear.” The Mirror has contacted reps for Gwyneth for comment on this story.
