VIJAYAWADA: Krishna district collector and Machilipatnam Municipal Corporation special officer D.K. Balaji conducted a bicycle inspection across several wards in Machilipatnam on Saturday as part of the Swachh Survekshan programme, directing officials to intensify sanitation efforts and involve the public.
Accompanied by officials and staff, the collector travelled on a bicycle through Parasupeta, Gade Vari Veedhi, Rustumbada, Koneru Centre, Godugupeta and Sarva Vari Veedhi in divisions 37, 38 and 39, inspecting green spots and garbage-prone areas.
Expressing dissatisfaction over incomplete development of green spots, Balaji instructed officials to complete beautification and wall painting works. He said sanitation work was not progressing satisfactorily and directed officials and sanitation staff to work with greater commitment.
He also pulled up ward secretariat staff for failing to properly monitor sanitation and directed them to conduct daily inspections and maintain strict vigilance.
Stating that inspections would continue until Machilipatnam becomes a clean and well-maintained city, Balaji instructed officials and staff to ensure that garbage does not accumulate anywhere.
He also ordered documentation of sanitation activities through photographs before garbage removal and after conversion into green spots, saying this would encourage public participation.
Interacting with residents, the collector warned of strict action against those dumping waste in green spots and stressed the need for citizens to take responsibility for cleanliness.
He advised residents to segregate household waste and hand it over only to municipal sanitation workers during collection.
Machilipatnam Municipal commissioner T. Bapiraju, assistant commissioner Gopala Rao, Swachh Sainik in-charge D.T.W.O. Phani Durjati, municipal engineer Kubiya Naik, former corporator Annam Anand and ward secretariat staff participated.
