College wrestler Jessie Orbin Jr. died at the age of 20 after suffering fatal injuries in a motorcycle accident, according to a statement released Monday.
Orbin, a star for Waynesburg University, “suffered a severe brain injury that was not survivable, leaving his family, friends, and community heartbroken,” according to the GoFundMe page set up by his family to help offset the costs of services.
He served as the team’s captain last season.
The Pennsylvania-based school released a heartfelt statement about his passing.
‘The Waynesburg University community is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of our student athletes,’ the university said in a statement.
“Jessie Orbin will be greatly missed. We are sending prayers for God to lift up and comfort his family at this difficult time.”
Orbin Jr. was named Waynesburg’s Male Athlete of the Year twice and led the team in wins, pins, technical falls and major decisions.
He was in the midst of an impressive 38-bout win streak.
Orbin Jr.’s overall record sat at 107-25, and he won two Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) titles while appearing in a third championship bout.
He was PAC’s Outstanding Wrestler at this year’s conference championships.
The 174-pound star wrestler was in his senior season and set to graduate from college in 2027.
The star wrestler was also an avid horse racing fan and even raced horses himself in his spare time.
Orbin Jr.’s birth mother, Brianna, died of cancer in 2017 at the age of 37.
