Collin Gosselin Expresses 'Rage' At Mom Kate In 'Special Forces' Fight, 'She Took Away My Childhood'

Collin Gosselin is confronting painful memories of his childhood in front of millions of viewers. The reality TV personality opened up about his anger toward his estranged mother, Kate Gosselin, during an intense challenge designed to test the recruits’ ability to control their aggression. For the reality TV star, the exercise quickly became personal, as he was encouraged to channel his feelings about his fractured relationship with Kate.

Collin Gosselin says he holds a “lot of anger” for mom Kate during Special Forces confessional

During the October 29, 2026, episode of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, the 22-year-old reality TV personality opened up about his anger toward his estranged mother, Kate Gosselin, during an intense challenge designed to test the recruits’ self-control.

Collin and his fellow recruits faced a task focused on what the instructors described as “controlled aggression.” The challenge required them to unleash intense physical energy on command and then stop immediately when instructed. Explaining the purpose of the exercise, directing staff member Jason Fox told the recruits that special forces operators must be able to access their aggression while remaining in control of their actions.

During the confessional, Collin reflected on his childhood, saying it was one of the reasons that motivated his journey on the show. Kate, who previously appeared on Special Forces season 1, institutionalized Collin when he was a young boy. With his recent memoir release, Collin has become increasingly vocal about his horrific experiences, with his father, Jon Gosselin, and their former housekeeper testifying in his support.

Collin said during the episode, “I’m here because my mother has taken a lot of things away from me, but this course is something she can’t take away. She took away my childhood, she took away my freedom – and I have a lot of anger.”

Another instructor, DS Q, then encouraged Collin to use his unresolved feelings as motivation. Q said, “This is your chance for revenge. Use that anger, use that rage.” When he asked Collin whether what he had experienced still hurt him, the 22-year-old answered, “Yes.” The instructor then gave him a specific image to focus on as the exercise began. He said, “When you see red, that’s your mom.”

Collin grew visibly red as he screamed and threw himself into the challenge. After the instructor called for him to stop, DS Billy reminded him to breathe and regain control. After the exercise, Billy told Collin, “That was your decompression there. To release all those demons. Now, it’s done.” Collin later shared photos from the show on Instagram with a caption:

“You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only option.”

Collin Gosselin was discharged from the Marines due to his time in a behavioral facility

While appearing on Special Forces, Collin shared one of the reasons that cultivated his anger towards his long-estranged mother after he grew older. After what he has described as a traumatic childhood, Collin said, “My only shot at a family was joining the Marines.”

Collin was 19 when he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and entered recruit training in 2023. However, just over ten weeks into the training, he was discharged after officials learned of his past institutionalization. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in 2024, the reality star shared:

“I was towards the end of training, very close to graduating. The paperwork was looked into, and they found out that I was, in fact, in an institution at one point in my life… and that’s good enough for [them] to discharge [you].”

Collin rose to fame as one of the sextuplets featured on TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8, which followed Kate and her then-husband, Jon Gosselin, as they raised their eight children. The couple divorced in 2009, and their family life subsequently became the subject of years of public scrutiny.

In 2016, Collin was placed in a behavioral health facility. Kate later explained that the decision came after outpatient treatment proved insufficient for his needs, adding that his medical specialists had recommended the measures to protect him and other family members. However, Collin’s representatives, Jon Gosselin, and Jon’s former partner, Colleen Conrad, have strongly disputed Kate’s claims. They have maintained that Collin had no clinically diagnosed mental illness, citing psychiatric evaluations they say support their position.

Collin’s appearance on Special Forces coincides with the release of his memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, in which he makes further allegations about his upbringing.

New episodes of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test air Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.
