After trading away impending free agent stars Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner this week, the Colts have decided to hold off on trade discussions for another defender.

Per the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Colts have received calls inquiring about the availability of up-and-coming defensive tackle Adetomiwa Adebowore, and told two teams that he will stay put, meaning they will likely work to extend him before he becomes a free agent after this season. The Colts reportedly view Adebowore as a big part of their team for the future as they head for a rebuild.

Adeboware was drafted by the Colts in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft and is currently on track to have the best season of his career in the final season of his rookie deal. Adebowore has already recorded 17 tackles with three tackles for loss in seven games. He recorded four sacks in 17 games last season, a number he’s already matched less than halfway through the 2026 season. Pro Football Focus ranked Adebowore fourth amongst 126 qualified defensive tackles.

Adebowore has only started one game in 2026 thus far, but fellow defensive tackle Buckner’s trade to San Francisco will likely give Adebowore more playing time.

“Now, I’ve got an opportunity to go play a little more,” Adebowore told the Indianapolis Star’s Joel A. Erickson. “I hope I take advantage of it.”

In the absence of Buckner, the Colts have also signed veteran defensive tackle Kevin Givens off the 49ers’ practice squad.

Adebowore will have his next opportunity to prove he can handle a larger role when the Colts visit the Jaguars in an AFC South matchup on Sunday.
