Washington Commanders‘ rookies will get their initial taste of the NFL on Friday.

The annual NFL Draft has come and gone, and now it is time for NFL rookie minicamps. The Commanders, like other teams, have been inviting rookies to attend, and on Thursday, they announced the official signing of nine undrafted free agents. They are scheduled to be at the Ashburn practice facility on Friday.

Can the significance of a rookie minicamp be illustrated? Well, last year the Commanders invited an undrafted cornerback, Carlin Vigers, to their rookie minicamp. Vigers remained with the team and was included on the 90-man training camp roster. He was cut following training camp, but signed to the practice squad, where he remained all season. The Commanders signed Vigers to a futures contract in January; thus, he is on the current roster.

Those undrafted free agent rookies who officially signed, Thursday with the Commanders are as follows:

  • Drew Stevens, K, Iowa

  • Fred Davis II, CB, Northwestern

  • Quentin Moore, TE, Washington

  • Jeffrey M’ba, DT, SMU

  • Malik Spencer, S, Michigan State

  • Tanoa Togiai, OG, Utah

  • Chris Hilton Jr, WR, LSU

  • Jaden Bradley, WR, UNLV

  • Robert Henry Jr, RB, UTSA

The NFL minicamps are not voluntary; they are mandated. They can be two or three days in length per the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Most of the work will, of course, be non-contact, limiting on-field drills to 3.5 hours daily. Players will not be in pads; only helmets and shells will be permitted. No contact is permitted, nor can there be one-on-one drills.

In case you missed it, the Commanders issued jersey numbers to the rookies the Commanders drafted:
