Visakhapatnam: Conditions are favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon into more parts of the southeast Arabian Sea, Comorin area, southwest and southeast Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of the Andaman Sea and more areas of the east-central Bay of Bengal during the next three to four days, the IMD Amaravati centre said on Tuesday.
The IMD stated that the southwest monsoon is likely to set in over Kerala on May 26, with a model error margin of four days.
The report said the upper air cyclonic circulation over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level persisted.
The trough extending from the southeast Arabian Sea adjoining the south Lakshadweep area to the cyclonic circulation over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh across Kerala, south interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level also persisted.
Thunderstorms hit Chintapalli
Visakhapatnam: Amid scorching heat conditions, thunderstorms lashed Chintapalli and GK Veedhi mandal areas on Tuesday afternoon, bringing down temperatures and providing relief to residents.
However, the storm uprooted trees and power poles, disrupting traffic for a few hours.
Local residents volunteered to clear fallen trees and poles that blocked roads in the affected areas.
“There was fog till around 9 am and temperatures rose to unbearable levels by noon. Finally, the thunderstorms brought down the temperature, though they caused some damage,” said Ch. Rajababu, a farmer from GK Veedhi.
