After one season spent at Mladost Zagreb, an experienced Croatian center-forward, Luka Loncar, a double Olympic silver medalist, will return to Greece during the upcoming transfer window.

Loncar, 39,  accepted an offer by the best Greek club and will sign a two-year contract with Olympiacos, the club he previously played for between 2023 and 2025.

The Croatian water polo veteran started his career at Mladost, but achieved his greatest successes while playing for Mladost’s archrival, Jug Dubrovnik, from 2015 to 2021. During his time there, he won the Champions League, the LEN Super Cup, three Regional Leagues, etc.

He has also played in Brescia and Pro Recco, winning two Champions Leaagues with Pro Recco (2022 and 2023). Representing Croatia, Loncar has won 13 medals in international competitions, including two Olympic silver medals (2016 and 2021). This year’s European Championships was probably his last competition for the national team.

As things stand now, Loncar is likely not going to be the only Croatian player moving to Olympiacos this summer. The club is interested in signing Loncar’s teammate, Konstantin Kharkov, as well as Loren Fatovic, one of the leaders of Jadran Split. If these transfers go through, Loren will be coached by his father, Elvis, who has been the head coach of Olympiacos since last summer.
