HYDERABAD: The BRS on Monday accused the state government of taking deliberate steps to “allow crops to go dry by refusing to provide irrigation,” with party working president K.T. Rama Rao alleging that this was being done so that the government could avoid its promise of paying bonus to farmers.

Rama Rao, who on Sunday had demanded that the government start using the Kannepalli pump house to lift from the Medigadda barrage, on Monday said “the government is worried that if water was supplied to farmers, it would have to provide fertilizers, and if crops were cultivated, it would have to pay the minimum support price and bonus.”

He also alleged that the government was neglecting the welfare of workers who toil carrying sacks of paddy, while Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is busy carrying bags of money to Congress leaders in Delhi. Recalling that the BRS government had increased wage rates for workers from Rs 8 to Rs 26, Rama Rao assured the workers that the BRS will work towards finding solutions to their problems.
