Hyderabad: BRS working president K T Rama Rao on Thursday alleged that after coming to power, the Congress had systematically dismantled every farmer welfare and protection mechanism introduced during the BRS regime. He accused the government of failing to provide investment support, mishandling fertiliser supply, and now collapsing the crop procurement system.
In an open letter addressed to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Rama Rao alleged that heaps of grain were being on the roads which he claimed was “living evidence of the government’s administrative collapse and anti-farmer attitude.”
Rama Rao also alleged serious irregularities and inefficiencies in grain purchase operations, pointing out that in several districts procurement centres are unable to dispatch even a single truckload of grain per day. In the limited procurement taking place, farmers were allegedly facing excessive deductions citing various grounds, with more than 10 kilograms being cut in several centres.
Rama Rao claimed that during the BRS government, procurement planning used to begin months in advance and was monitored continuously to ensure smooth operations. He said that from the supply of gunny bags to timely payments into farmers’ bank accounts, every aspect of procurement was reviewed regularly under then-Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s leadership.
