
Hyderabad: A Congress delegation led by the Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar submitted a memorandum to Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharsan Reddy here on Tuesday seeking extension of ongoing SIR drive.
The delegation wanted the Election Commission (EC) to extend the deadline to ensure no eligible voter is left out.
Meanwhile, the EC on Tuesday extended the SIR of the electoral roll enumeration by 10 days in Andhra Pradesh, following a request from CEO Vivek Yadav.
The EC extended house-to-house visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) up to July 24. The exercise, which started on June 15 and was supposed to end on July 14 as per the original schedule.
“The Commission has decided to revise the said (Special Intensive Revision) schedule for Andhra Pradesh,” said a letter from the poll body to Chief Electoral Officer Yadav, detailing the revised dates.
Under the revised schedule, rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations will be completed by July 24 and the draft Electoral Roll will be published on July 31.
Further, the poll body said claims and objections can be filed for a month from July 31 to August 30, followed by the notice phase and disposal of claims and objections from July 31 to September 28.
