Karimnagar:The ruling Congress party is making serious efforts to ensure that the public meeting of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy scheduled for Wednesday in Sircilla is a grand success.
The CM would lay the foundation for projects worth Rs 345.78 crore in Sircilla. The party is contemplating to mobilise the weaving community on a large scale for the public meeting.
Revanth Reddy will walk along with weavers for a distance of nearly 3km from the Ambedkar chowk to the Ragudu bypass road, where he would address the public meeting.
During the visit, the CM would interact with representatives of weavers and get first-hand information about their problems.
Through this high-profile visit, Revant Reddy is reportedly targeting local MLA and BRS working president KT Rama Rao. About one lakh people are being organised for the event, Congress leaders claimed.
The political heat on the CM’s Sircilla visit has escalated with statements and counter statements from the ruling and opposition sides.
Congress leaders have predicted that the days of KTR will be numbered after Revanth Reddy’s meeting, while BRS leaders retaliated that the countdown for exit of the Congress from power has already started.
The Congress government is already wooing the region’s largely spread weaver community with many sops. Recently, it has released Rs 92 crore towards clearing the pending saree bills of years 2025 and 2026.
Ministers and government officials recently held several meetings with representatives of weaving associations.
Handlooms and textiles minister Thummala Nageshwar Rao along with Ponnam Prabhakar and Adluri Laxman Kumar held a meeting with weaving community people in Sircilla on Sunday and asked them to make the CM’s meeting a big success by participating in it in a big way.
While promising to continue the governmental support to the community in future, the minister reportedly warned them of consequences if the weavers failed to take part in the meeting. “Nageshwar Rao had made similar comments during the municipal elections in Sircilla municipality,” a weaver said.
On Monday, special chief secretary to handlooms and textiles, Sabyasachi Ghosh, held a meeting with weavers.
During the meetings, the weavers listed their problems before the ministers. They wanted the government to release `60 crore in pending bills, resume 10 per cent subsidy for yarn and provide free power upto 10 HP to looms.
They also wanted the government to start the ‘Worker to Owner’ scheme that had been stalled in the middle and allocate 50 to 60 acres of land near the Apparel Park to establish their units.
