As Jodie continues to cause drama on Coronation Street, we’re taking a look inside the actress Olivia Frances Brown’s life
Olivia had a difficult break-up earlier this year.
Coronation Street’s Jodie Ramsay has ruffled plenty of feathers – but what do we know about actress Olivia Frances Brown’s life?
Back in January, Jodie made her debut during the Corriedale crossover episode. She then made it to Weatherfield where she promptly revealed herself as the long-lost half-sister of Shona Platt (played by Julia Goulding).
Since then, Jodie has settled into life on the cobbles, but it’s evident that Jodie is a troubled individual who is hiding a ton of secrets. As well as stealing items from several residents, Jodie also turned her attention to her brother-in-law David (Jack P. Shepherd).
She ended up tricking a drunken David in a bid to seduce him, and pretended to be Shona while lying in their bed. And recently, Jodie made Daniel Osbourne’s (Rob Mallard) life hell, after she orchestrated an online hate campaign against him.
And away from the soap, actress Olivia lives a far less dramatic life compared to her on-screen character. But who is her famous actor ex? And what is her secret talent? Here’s everything you need to know about Olivia…
Where was Olivia born?
Olivia was born in Liverpool and grew up in Aigburth. She spent her school years at a small village in Cheshire called Whitley where she “had a very outdoorsy upbringing” including climbing and riding bikes.
After moving around a lot, Olivia then came back to Liverpool to attend LIPA, the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. Although she moved away again after leaving LIPA, Olivia has since returned to Liverpool.
Proud of her city, she told YM Liverpool: “It’s a city that gives you confidence but keeps your feet firmly on the ground – no one lets you get too big for your boots.”
Olivia’s ‘powerful’ singing skills
Coronation Street isn’t Olivia’s first foray into television, as she has previously graced our screens in Channel 4’s The Gathering, as well as roles in Archie and Boiling Point.
What’s more, Olivia is also a hugely talented singer, and often impresses fans on social media by sharing videos of her singing.
Revealing music was her first love, Olivia previously explained: “It was there before I even knew how to speak – my first love, my first language. I was fascinated by the songs my parents played growing up, especially Motown.
“I was always singing as a child – probably to everyone’s annoyance – and scribbling little songs in notebooks from about the age of four. They were rubbish, but I’d perform them for anyone who would listen, or at least pretend to.”
In 2025, Olivia released her single, Shade Of Red, which is available on Spotify complete with its own music video. Fans showered praise on the song and its accompanying video, with one commenting: “Powerful words this girl is going to be a big star love her brilliant song.”
Another wrote: “Wow…. this is excellent”. Another fan gushed: “Absolutely love this…I can see this being a sound track in a film too! It’s amazingggggh” and yet another follower chimed in with: “A superstar!”
Olivia’s romance with famous actor
Olivia was also engaged to fellow actor James Nelson-Joyce. James played Michael Kavanagh in the 2025 smash hit show This City Is Ours and his other acting credits include Mount Pleasant, Little Boy Blue, The Nest, Time, The Outlaws, Industry, The Gold, A Town Called Malice, Bird and A Thousand Blows.
The couple were together for several years and announced their engagement in a joint post in 2023. Chatting about James, Olivia told YM Liverpool that they don’t like to usually talk about work at home.
She shared: “We do read lines together, but we respect each other’s creative process. Sometimes it’s about giving each other space – creative work can be quite solitary.
“We both understand that, which is valuable in a partner. We also understand the demands of the job and that work sometimes has to take priority, so it helps to be with someone who gets that.
“Ultimately, it’s about balance. Work doesn’t always stay at work in this job, so knowing how to switch off and decompress makes all the difference.”
Why did Olivia and James split?
Sadly, earlier this year, it was reported that Olivia and James had called it quits with the pair deleting all trace of each other from their social media accounts.
Claiming their relationship is “finished”, a source said: “It’s finished. They were a rock-solid showbiz couple, and their fans will be absolutely shocked and devastated.”
According to insiders, the sudden split comes down to Olivia and James’s hectic schedules, with the hard-working duo ‘struggling to make time in their diaries for each other’, reports The Sun.
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX
