Coronation Street’s Tyrone Dobbs has had his fair share of heartbreak on the soap – and in real life, actor Alan Halsall’s love life hasn’t always been rosy either.
Actor Alan shot to fame playing mechanic Tyrone on the ITV show, making his debut in 1998. And over the years, he’s been involved in several big moments.
Tyrone has also endured plenty of failed relationships on the cobbles before settling down with his wife, Fiz Brown (Jennie McAlpine). However, away from the soap set, actor Alan’s real-life romances have also ended in heartbreak – including a recent split from his younger girlfriend.

Alan’s split from Corrie co-star
Alan first met actress Lucy-Jo Hudson when she joined Corrie in 2002, playing “Killer Katy” Harris, and they married in 2009, welcoming their daughter, Sienna-Rae, in 2013. Alan revealed at the time that, although they had been trying to conceive, they were still shocked by how quickly Lucy-Jo fell pregnant.
“Lucy took me by surprise when she told me she was pregnant. I made her do five pregnancy tests because I couldn’t believe it happened so fast,” they told OK Magazine.
“I feel awful because a lot of our friends have struggled. I feel guilty telling people I’m pregnant because it happened so fast, while other people have been trying for months or even years.”
But by 2018, their marriage had ended in divorce, later sparking a public fallout. And in 2020, Lucy-Jo revealed that co-parenting with Alan had been a challenge.
She told OK! magazine: “The thing is, everybody who has a blended family knows it’s not easy. You can’t pretend that it is. And me and Alan sometimes have different views on raising Sienna so trying to co-parent can be challenging. It’s probably like that for a lot of blended families.”
Alan’s split from another cobbles co-star
After his relationship with Lucy-Jo ended, Alan began dating actress Tisha Merry in 2019. Tisha played Steph Britton in Coronation Street for five years from 2013 to 2018.
Sadly, in February 2024, the pair announced their split after five years of romance. Alan and Tisha were said to have parted ways after “the pressure got to them”, according to one close source.
“Alan and Tisha had a lot of love for each other and had really similar interests, enjoying socialising and going on holiday together”, the insider told The Sun at the time.
“But they started to drift apart and feel the pressure of making their relationship work get on top of them. They realised they weren’t on the same page and splitting up felt like the best option.”
Alan splits from younger girlfriend
Fast forward to last year, and Alan reportedly started dating a human resources co-ordinator, Ellie Dolan. It was claimed mum-of-two, Ellie, who is 17 years his junior, met Alan at the Marriott Worsley Park golf club, where Ellie works, and Alan is a member.
Their relationship was so serious that Ellie had met Alan’s daughter, despite their romance originally intending to be “fun”. However, last week it was reported that Ellie and Alan had called it quits.
It’s said that the now-former couple had realised that neither of them wanted the relationship to go any further. They both unfollowed one another on social media and Alan also wiped all traces of Ellie from his online profile.
“They discovered they were opposites and it wasn’t going to work due to the age gap. Alan has now removed any pictures of her and unfollowed her,” a source told The Sun.
