Former Coronation Street star Tracy Shaw has updated her fans on her cancer diagnosis as she gets ready for her next phase of treatment
Coronation Street icon Tracy Shaw has updated fans on her cancer battle and explained she is getting ready for the “next phase” of her treatment. The actress, 52, who is best known for her role as Maxine Peacock in the ITV soap and revealed her breast cancer diagnosis last month.
And she has shared her latest update on Instagram as she posed with a shaven head. She was seen smiling as she petted her dog. She captioned her pictures: “Next phase. My love to my sons Louis and Luca. Your my everything. Peace , joy and love to everyone.”
Former co-stars on the soap were quick to share messages of hope and praise. Among them was Sally Dynevor who wrote: “Beautiful xxx,” with an emoji face with love heart eyes.
Denise Welch also clicked the like button. Another follower told the actress: “Sending all my love, Tracy! Your amazing spirit shines through even stronger. You’ve got this. I know it’s hard but, a day at a time as always, and am here holding your hand.”
Days earlier, Tracy had candidly revealed to her followers that her first chemotherapy injection had “wiped” her. She said in an Instagram clip: “So yesterday I had my first injection of chemo. It’s one which affects my heart, so I have to have my heart checked on a regular basis for scans.”
In the upload, her hair was cut shorter but not shaved like her latest reveal. She continued: “It really wiped me, I don’t know if it’s because I had to go back into hospital and it’s so hot in there. Why doesn’t the government just look after the guys at the NHS a little bit more and invest a bit more into our hospitals.
“I’m feeling the effects today. I’ve taken my first injection to help my immune system. Basically from tomorrow I can’t really socialise. My immune system will be really low. The other thing is temperatures.”
But she was remaining positive and was defiant in her message. She added: “My body is now going to war with that thing in me which doesn’t belong in here.”
And her caption read: “Thank you for all your love and support. Extremely long update unfortunately, but I’m struggling to reply to everyone individually, grab a cuppa and a biscuit or scroll if you’d like.
“Sending all my love to everyone on the same journey with chemo and cancer in general. I promised I’d keep it real.”
Her upbeat message comes weeks after she devastatingly said she had spent the morning having a “good cry” as she began to think about what lies ahead for her.
Speaking in a video posted to Instagram, she said: “I’m just going to be me, and my truth is…by the way, I’ve not shaved my hair off, I’ve just put a scarf on just because I’ve not done anything with it and I’m going to hospital.
“Each morning I wake up and know that I have to go into hospital and receive more news, which has been going on for a long time, that unknown…I just think ‘I can’t go through with this anymore,’ but I’ve not even started my journey.
“I’ve had a good cry. I’ll go in later today and I’ll meet some other ladies who will start the treatment with me – chemo. And I’ll find out the date. 50% of me wants to get going. I want to know that it’s being shrunk and the cancer is being dealt with. When I wake up and I’ve got really bad headaches or I can feel another twinge in my other boob, I just think ‘Oh, it’s moving!'”
