Former One Show host, Matt Baker, has announced the death of his beloved dog, Bob, who the Countryfile star hailed as the ‘ultimate companion’
Matt Baker has revealed he’s heartbroken. The Countryfile star, 48, who also used to present The One Show, announced the sad death of his pet dog, Bob, on Instagram with an emotional tribute.
Sharing snaps of his beloved Border Colie by Matt’s side on the farm he owns in Northumberland, the popular presenter admitted he was “incredibly sad” by the loss as he shared: “It’s with a very heavy heart that I’m letting you know our wonderful Bob is no longer with us. He’s been gone a while but I haven’t been able to talk about it as I’ve been finding it so incredibly sad.”
Matt continued: “Bob was a brilliant dog he was there for me with his gentle soul as the ultimate companion through some of the greatest chapters of my life from raising our kids to all the changes we made on our family farm.
“It’s broken my heart but I feel hugely grateful to have had him in our lives and I thank him from the bottom of my heart for everything he’s taught me and brought to our family.
“I’m sure all you dog lovers will agree the reason we love our dogs so much is because the only time they break our hearts is when they leave us. RIP Bob X.”
Matt’s wife Nicola was one of the first to comment on the poignant post, replying: “We miss him so much.” Meanwhile, Matt’s fans also sent their condolences, as one said: “So sorry for your loss, Matt. He was lucky to have had you and your family in his life, as you had him in yours.”
Another added: “So sorry sorry for your loss. You are so right. They break your heart at the end. They give so much to our lives and leave permanent foot prints on our souls.”
Meanwhile, a third shared: “Lovely words. So sorry for your loss, he was a beauty.”
With a whole host of presenting roles under his belt, Matt was last seen on TV in Travels With Mum and Dad in which he took his parents, Janice and Mike on various jaunts around the North East of England.
However, he has now decided to take some time off from the show, telling The Sun: “We’re just resting that at the moment.
“Dad’s going to be 81 on his birthday and he’s thoroughly enjoyed it as we’ve gone around with the caravan and stuff like that.
“But I’ve got a little series that’s coming out later on in the year, which is about the British Isles with all the characters and the mix of folk that makes the UK what it is, town and country.”
