The singer recalled being taken to hospital while vising Britain seven years ago. She recalled losing her hair and large amounts of weight as she battled a mysterious illness.

Courtney Love sparked concern after revealing she was close to death after falling ill during a visit to the United Kingdom in 2019. The legendary singer and reformed hellraiser reflected on the incident with Instagram followers in a rambling video shared across social media on Sunday, admitting her body ‘almost exploded’ after she was struck down with an undisclosed illness.

“A lot of you are asking where my record is at – it’s done, my record is done. It’s a really good record; I put a lot into it,” she told followers while filming in her garden over the weekend. Online to discuss her new music, Love, 62, veered wildly off topic to recall the impact of her mystery ailment and subsequent stay in hospital.

She added: “I went to England in 2019, and when I went there my body exploded, it just exploded, and I was in hospitals a lot and I almost died. I lost all my hair, and I was about 100 pounds, and they told me I was going to die. I didn’t believe them.”

The singer claimed her scepticism stemmed from being duped by adult family members during her childhood. “When I was a kid – and I think this record is about this – I used to pattern interrupt the adults. They tell me red, they say red was blue, and then I’d see blue, so blue is blue.

“So now that I gaslight myself that maybe, maybe they were right and red was blue, then I would see purple and my head would explode. Like, f***ing cope with that sh*t, right? I think some of you can relate to that.

“Anyway, I never really lost my ability to see that red was red, despite them telling me red was blue, so when they told me I was going to die, I didn’t believe them, and somehow I got better, I’m healthy, which is amazing.”

In February 2020, Love, who has previously battled substance and alcohol abuse issues, confirmed she had been sober for 18 months – a period covering her hospitalisation in England.

The singer admitted she was now focused on releasing her new album and hoped to bounce back commercially after previous solo release America’s Sweetheart , released in 2004, limped to number 52 on US chart.

“… it flopped. I mean, spectacular, humbling, like playing a place called Pizza Hut Park at 11:00am, while Limp Bizkit was headlining with 30 Seconds To Mars,’ she recalled.

“That sh*t’s humbling. You know, I’m just tapping in, figuring how to roll this out. Things are great right now.”

Signing off, she added: “I just wasn’t being public about being sick, I don’t want to be public. I’m fine now. Thank you for waiting – just bear with me.”
