Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday announced plans to develop an 870-acre technology hub at Naraj near Cuttack, which will be branded as the “Odisha Silicon Valley” and cater to semiconductor, electronics and IT industries.
The announcement came at Semicon India 2026 in New Delhi, where Odisha received investment proposals worth around Rs 23,600 crore, with the potential to create nearly 6,100 jobs, according to the state government.
The proposed technology hub is strategically located along the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar urban corridor and has connectivity to the ports of Paradip and Dhamra as well as major national highways. The government said the location would facilitate semiconductor manufacturing, logistics and allied industries.
During the event, Mr Majhi held discussions with representatives of global and domestic technology companies, industry bodies and delegations from Japan, Sweden and Taiwan. Among the companies that engaged with the Odisha delegation were Lam Research, Applied Materials, SiCSem, 3D Glass Solutions, Cyient, Linde and HORIBA India.
The state also signed a letter of intent with QuadQuantum for setting up a silicon carbide (SiC) substrate wafer manufacturing facility in Odisha.
As part of its efforts to attract semiconductor investments, Odisha has amended its semiconductor policy to provide an additional 25 per cent fiscal support to projects approved under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). The enhanced support covers semiconductor equipment, specialised gases, raw materials and other segments of the supply chain.
Mr Majhi also inaugurated the Odisha Pavilion at Semicon India 2026, where the state showcased semiconductor projects and chip-design initiatives involving companies and educational institutions.
The state government said the proposed technology hub, along with the enhanced incentives and existing industrial infrastructure, would strengthen Odisha’s efforts to emerge as a destination for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.
