HYDERABAD: In a major nationwide crackdown, cyber crime police arrested 49 persons across 15 states in July in connection with 25 cases, while facilitating refunds of ₹98.89 lakh to victims. Officials said 70 FIRs were registered based on complaints received through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).
Trading fraud emerged as the most prevalent offence, accounting for 29 of the accused, followed by social media fraud, digital arrest scams and WhatsApp display picture (DP) fraud. Arrests were made across multiple states, including Telangana (13), Maharashtra (7), Rajasthan (6) and West Bengal (5). Police also seized debit cards, mobile phones, cheque books, laptops and forged documents.
Financial data revealed that cyber fraudsters caused losses exceeding ₹13.87 crore across 38 cases, with trading fraud alone accounting for over ₹11.75 crore. Coordinated efforts led to partial recoveries, with the highest refunds recorded in trading fraud cases.
Zonal cyber cells handled 2,059 complaints, registering 298 FIRs and refunding ₹27.09 lakh. Cyber patrol teams intensified monitoring, identifying 128 social media profiles promoting illegal activities, including fake investment schemes and online exploitation. All such profiles were taken down, and a case was registered against one promoter. Overall, 1,086 profiles and 2,553 paid advertisements have been removed so far.
In a key case, fraudsters impersonated a company representative on WhatsApp to dupe a firm into transferring ₹25 lakh via RTGS. Police arrested an accused from Gurugram and seized multiple digital and financial instruments linked to the fraud.
Authorities urged citizens to remain vigilant against online scams, including fake investment offers, impersonation calls, malicious APK links and so‑called digital arrest threats. Victims are advised to report incidents immediately through helpline 1930 or the official cybercrime portal.
Headline: Truck with 50 calves seized in Meerpet
HYDERABAD:Police intercepted a truck transporting 50 calves in a cruel and illegal manner during a late‑night patrol in Meerpet on Friday. The Blue Colt patrolling team stopped the vehicle near Mantrala Cheruvu around 12.30 am.
On inspection, the truck was found carrying 13 male and 37 female calves without food or proper care. The driver, Arapu Prashanth, told police the animals were being moved from Tuni in Andhra Pradesh to Jalpally in Ranga Reddy district on behalf of owner Rapolu Nagaraju.
Police took the driver and vehicle into custody and registered a case under the Telangana Prohibition of Cow Slaughter and Animal Preservation Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Investigation is underway.
Headline: Labourer falls to death at Banjara Hills site
HYDERABAD:A 56‑year‑old centring labourer died after falling from the fifth floor of an under‑construction building in Banjara Hills on Friday. The deceased was identified as Mantoli Upender, a resident of Subhash Chandra Bose Nagar in Jeedimetla.
Police said the incident occurred around 11.30 am at a building near Nandi Nagar bus stop. Upender, who was working under contractor Srinivas Reddy, reportedly fell while carrying out centring work and sustained grievous injuries. He died on the spot before he could be shifted to hospital.
Based on a complaint lodged by his son Mantoli Chandrashekar, Banjara Hills police registered a case under the BBS for causing death by negligence against contractor Srinivas Reddy. The family alleged inadequate safety measures at the site led to the fatal accident. Police said an investigation is underway.
