TOKYO –
Daiwa Securities said on October 5 that about 220,000 records containing customer personal information may have been leaked following unauthorized access to a contractor that manages online customer inquiries.

According to Daiwa Securities, the company handling inquiries submitted by users over the internet was hit by unauthorized access from the night of October 2 through October 3.

The information potentially exposed includes names and securities account numbers belonging to about 110,000 customers, representing roughly 220,000 individual records.

Daiwa Securities said the leaked information cannot be used by itself to conduct online trading or gain access to customers’ securities accounts.

The company said it has so far found no evidence that the potentially leaked information has been misused.
