‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 Cliffhanger Sets Stage For Season 3, Hints At What’s Next In MCU

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 has come to an end. However, it has not only set the groundwork for Season 3, which is alleged to release in 2027, but also given us some major hints about what’s next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, as the season comes to an end, let’s take a quick look at every easter egg and cliffhanger and what it means.

‘Matt Murdock’ is under arrest!

‘Matt Murdock’ revealing his identity as ‘Daredevil’ to the court was the biggest shock of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Instead of letting ‘Wilson Fisk’ use his identity as leverage, ‘Matt’ takes away ‘Kingpin’s’ biggest trump card to help bring him justice. However, he doesn’t walk free; he is arrested for his vigilante actions, and the final moments show him behind bars. The arrest has given fans a hint that, since Born Again combines elements of Daredevil by Brian Michael Bendis and Charles Soule, Season 3 would follow the respective successors, Ed Brubaker and Chip Zdarsky.

‘The Kingpin’ is out of NYC

Keeping the hint about Ed Burbaker in mind and the trajectory of Season 2, it’s safe to say that Season 3 will likely follow Ed’s storyline from Return of the King  and will feature ‘Wilson Fisk’ in Spain, attempting to settle into a new life with a single mom and her two children. However, her ideation will be cut short when the Ninja organisation, the Hand and the villain, ‘Lady Bullseye’ kill the mother and her children. Season 2 ended with ‘Daredevil’ defeating ‘Wilson’ and him leaving NYC.

He has lost everything from his wife to his power. So, as ‘Matt’ sits behind the bars for now, Season 3 might follow ‘Wilson’s’ exile from NYC and how short-lived it might be as ‘The Hand’ appears in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the ninja organisation could target Wilson Fisk, leading up to his return, sporting a drastically new look.

Who will take over the mantle of ‘Daredevil’?

Every time the ‘Daredevil’ has been behind bars, someone has come forward to take the role. During Ed Brubaker’s run, it was the fellow member of the ‘Defenders’, ‘Danny Rand’/’Iron Fist’, who held this role, while in Chip Zdarsky’s run, it was ‘Elektra’, Matt’s’ former lover-turned-assassin, who held this role. However, ‘Iron Fist’ seems like a more obvious choice for Season 3, given that Finn Jones has been spotted filming the next season. Meanwhile, ‘Elektra’ actress, Elodie Yung, has teased that she hopes to return to the MCU.

Season 3 to mark the return of ‘Luke Cage’?

Ever since Krysten Ritter’s return as ‘Jessica Jones’ for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 was announced, fans have been wondering if ‘Defenders’, ‘Luke Cage’ and ‘Iron Fist’ will return as well. While the eventual reveal of the team’s reunion might have been spoiled thanks to on-set photos, it certainly didn’t make ‘Luke Cage’ standing at ‘Jessica Jones’ door any less impactful. While the return has been confirmed, the next big question is: Will ‘Luke Cage’ fill the role of mayor after ‘Wilson Fisk’, as he did in the comics? Or is he about to set up his ‘Heroes for Hire’ business alongside his good friend, ‘Danny Rand’/’Iron Fist’? Well, those are some questions that will be answered in Season 3.

Will ‘Jessica Jones’ open her private eye practice business again?

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 ends with ‘Jessica Jones’ seemingly reopening her private eye practice, Alias Investigations, in what seems like the same building as the original series. While she had initially stepped away from life after having her and ‘Luke’s’ daughter, ‘Danielle’, it seems like ‘Matt’ being imprisoned has made her step back into her life.

Although it’s unclear if that would be its own standalone revival, a Marvel One-Shot, or just in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, ‘Jessica’s’ return to the business has definitely made fans interested. However, the MCU’s in-universe timeline between Jessica Jones Season 3 (2018) and Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 spans about 9 years, leaving many gaps to fill, including when she and Luke Cage finally decided to settle down.

Did Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 tease a Thunderbolts sequel?

As ‘Luke Cage’ returns to Daredevil: Born Again, he is seen telling ‘Jessica Jones’ that he found someone to take his place for ‘Mr Charles’ on the seemingly black-ops missions, Bullseye. However, with ‘Charles’ working for ‘Valentina Allegera de Fontainne’ and Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 taking place close to the events of Thunderbolts, there are many questions about ‘Luke Cage’.

It has also raised questions about Bullseye’s relationship with ‘Charles’ and ‘Valentina’. Nonetheless, the most exciting of them all could be the latter, building a second team to do her dirty work in the shadows of the New Avengers, as she can’t control them; this new team could be designed to be foes for The New Avengers and possibly replace the Dark Avengers. However, how accurate or possible this theory is, only time will tell.
