On the 40th anniversary of the Mets winning their last World Series, Darryl Strawberry had no plans Tuesday night to watch the latest iteration of the Fall Classic.
“If it’s not New York baseball, I don’t watch it,” Strawberry said in a phone conversation.
The former Mets star played in plenty of big October games, many for the Yankees, with whom he earned three rings late in his career. But before Strawberry’s second baseball life, there was Oct. 27, 1986, when the Mets beat the Red Sox 8-5 in Game 7 of the World Series, punctuated by Jesse Orosco hurling his glove into the air to start the celebration.
The Mets had won the franchise’s second World Series, after winning 108 games in the regular season and defeating the Astros in an epic NLCS.
