Dave Portnoy was going deep in his X mentions on Tuesday.
The sports personality and founder of Barstool Sports called out Caleb Williams, accusing him of spreading false information about him after the Chicago quarterback reposted an X user’s tweet about Portnoy.
“I woke up to Bears Qb @CALEBcsw spreading disinformation about me. I didn’t get anybody arrested or kicked outta school,” Portnoy posted. “That moron threw shit at me on camera in the middle of a pizza review and it went viral. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
“Regardless I will not hold this against Caleb. He’s an emotional guy and in his feelings after tweaking his hammy. I am rooting for him and all of Chicago. I can’t wait to see 18 back on the field this week after that season ending injury. When they go low I go high! Go Bears! 🐻”
With the post, Portnoy included a screenshot of the retweet by Williams.
The 24-year-old reposted a tweet by another X user that called out Portnoy, pointing out a video segment that was posted by Barstool Sports with the caption “Dave calls out Caleb Williams.”
The user wrote: “The guy that had a kid arrested and expelled from school for throwing pennies at him is calling someone else soft LMFAOOOOOO”
The post seemingly referred to a 2025 incident in which Portnoy, filming a pizza review in Starkville, Miss., was met with antisemitic remarks and had coins thrown at him. A 20-year-old Mississippi State student was arrested and withdrew from the school.
The Barstool video and retweet both were posted on Monday following the Bears’ 9-3 loss to the Vikings on Sunday where Williams went down with a non-contact hamstring injury during the fourth quarter.
He was carted off the field, creating a big scare for Chicago.
It was later reported on Monday that Williams avoided a major injury and could play in Week 3 against the Eagles on “Monday Night Football.”
The dramatic scene of Williams screaming in pain and being carted off the field led some to mock the QB for overreacting to an injury that may not cause him to miss significant time.
However, Bears coach Ben Johnson said on ESPN1000 it could be “a week-to-week deal” and Williams will “likely miss time.”
If Williams is out, things could get dicey in Chicago with backup Tyson Bagent in concussion protocol and third-stringer Case Keenum possibly in line to start.
Bagent joined the Bears as an undrafted free agent in May 2023 and the team has prioritized keeping and developing him despite drafting Williams in 2024. The 26-year-old signed a $10 million extension in August 2025.
In his second season, Williams led the Bears to an 11-6 record and a divisional round playoff appearance. It was the first time the Bears earned a spot in the postseason since 2020.
