David Beckham went to the effort of hunting day proof that wife Victoria had indeed be taken to school in her dad’s Rolls Royce, three years on from the viral confession

David Beckham poked fun at his ‘working class’ wife, Victoria, on her birthday – with a photo of her in front of her dad’s Rolls-Royce!

The football legend famously pushed his wife to tell viewers of his Netflix documentary the truth after she claimed to have come from a regular background, despite being driven to school in a flash motor. His brilliant “be honest” remark from behind a door eventually got Posh to come clean.

Golden Balls sensed a golden opportunity and dug out the snap of a young Victoria posing in front of the classic car. “To my working-class wife, Happy Birthday. We love you. BE HONEST.” wrote David over a snap as he marked her 52th with a cheeky message, three years on from the four-part docuseries.

The viral moment was born when Victoria sat on her luxury sofa to describe her working-class upbringing – only for David to interrupt from the side of the room to demand she “be honest” about her early years. The Spice Girl was then shamed into confessing her father drove her to school in a Rolls.

After getting his answer, David replied with a simple “Thank you”, before exiting the room. The moment became a meme and the most talked-about clip of the show – but the classic conversation should never have happened. He did, of course, post a number of nice tributes too, including some from their early days.

David revealed that his intervention sparked a furious exchange with documentary director Fisher Stevens because the camera team and crew believed David had left the premises so they could film with Victoria – only for him to eavesdrop on their conversation from the kitchen.

OK! Magazine claims The Hollywood Reporter recorded a roundtable discussion with David Fisher, documentary producer Josh Battsek, and editor Michael Harte to reflect on their time putting the series together. David then reportedly explained that he had been in the kitchen when Victoria started discussing her humble upbringing.

He is reported as saying: “I put the set headphones on and all of a sudden I heard my wife go, ‘Well, we’re down to earth’. And I was like, ‘No, no, no’. As soon as I heard her say ‘We’re working class’, I stuck my head in and I was like, ‘Be honest’.” He then claimed that Fisher was “very angry with me over that” at the time.

The director himself is then quoted, defending his irritation, explaining: “David was supposedly out and she could be free to say what she wants. And then he showed up and I was quite upset. I was like, ‘Get him out of here’ – but it actually turned out to be brilliant. It worked out. Thank God the cameraman caught David, and then Michael, I did say ‘I think we have some gold’.”

Victoria sat on the funny side and was selling a £110 t-shirt inspired by the viral clip. The white crew neck tee, which reads ‘My Dad Had A Rolls Royce’, is a nod to a funny exchange and was made from 100% soft organic cotton.
