Davina McCall has opened up about her ‘most embarrassing moment ever’ after a teenage fan mistook her another iconic television presenter in a “humbling moment”
TV presenter Davina McCall has revealed a member of the public failed to recognise her following a hilarious mix-up.
Davina ranks among Britain’s most familiar television faces, boasting an enviable roster of shows including Big Brother, The Masked Singer, Long Lost Family, Million Pound Drop and The Jump.
You’d imagine such credentials would guarantee instant recognition whenever she ventures onto UK streets, yet evidently that’s not always true.
On her Making The Cut podcast, which she co-hosts with husband Michael Douglas, she shared how a passer-by confused her with fellow presenter Claudia Winkleman.
Davina recalled the incident outside a hotel, describing it as her “most embarrassing moment ever”. She’d been chatting with the doorman and several acquaintances when two teenage girls approached, reports the Express.
The 58 year old explained: “One of them started freaking out and said ‘oh my God, it’s you.’ She started hitting her friend going ‘take our picture, take our picture’.
“While she was standing next to me I looked at the two people who were with the doorman and they were going ‘oh look, someone’s recognised her.’
“I went: ‘I mean, it happens sometimes, yeah.’ And this girl’s taking a picture of me and her friend leans over and goes ‘she doesn’t know who you are.’
“I was like: ‘Lots of people don’t know who I am, that’s fine.’ And she went: ‘But I do.’ And I kept smiling for the picture. She whispered to me: ‘My mum loves Traitors.'” Davina revealed that everyone there laughed at the mix-up before she gently clarified that she wasn’t Claudia Winkleman.
The television presenter confessed that the encounter served as a humbling moment before adding: “Three days later I got called Carol, so I’m just going with it.”
The news follows Davina receiving the all-clear from cancer as she delivered an emotional update to her followers.
The mother-of-three had a lumpectomy last October after finding a lump. This came less than 12 months after Davina had an operation to remove a benign brain tumour.
During a previous episode of her podcast, she revealed: “I went to go and have a checkup on my boobs the other day, obviously quite a serious day, quite heavy. It was all clear, just letting everyone know. Good news, good news.”
She sought medical attention for the lump following advice from friend and fellow broadcaster Lorraine Kelly. The operation was followed by rigorous radiotherapy treatment.
Davina stunned her supporters back in November when she disclosed: “I just wanted to tell you that I have had breast cancer. I found a lump a few weeks ago, and it came and went.” She added: “So I had a biopsy.
“I found out it was indeed breast cancer, and I had it taken out in a lumpectomy nearly three weeks ago … It was very, very small, so I got it very, very early, which is incredibly lucky, but I am so relieved to have had it removed, and to know that it hasn’t spread.”
