The 27-year-old was inundated with horrible comments from people and led to her completely deleting her social media pages

Declan Rice’s partner Lauren Fryer reportedly came close to missing England’s World Cup campaign after the horrific online abuse she suffered left her reluctant to return to the public eye.

Lauren was among the England WAGs supporting the Three Lions in the United States this week, but friends have claimed the decision to attend was far from straightforward following the trolling she endured over her appearance.

According to a source, Lauren had considered staying at home and watching England’s matches on television rather than travelling to the World Cup, fearing she would once again become the target of online abuse.

A source told the Daily Mail: “Lauren was so scarred by the horrid and disgusting slurs she was subjected to that it was a miracle she made it to Boston.”

They added: “She loves watching Declan. She is the most loving and supportive partner, but the abuse devastated her.”

The source claimed: “She didn’t want to be seen, she didn’t want to be recognised and there was a time when she just wanted to be at home and watch it on the television. But then the trolls would win, wouldn’t they?”

Lauren became the subject of cruel social media abuse in late 2023, with anonymous users targeting her appearance and making offensive comments about her relationship with the Arsenal and England midfielder.

The trolling prompted her to delete both her Instagram and X accounts, removing photos from her social media pages and stepping away from the online spotlight.

Friends say the experience continues to affect her and that she had hoped to travel to the United States without becoming the focus of attention.

The source added: “It has been so difficult for both Declan and Lauren. He adores her so much and does everything he can to protect her.”

Declan and Lauren, both 27, have been together since they met as teenagers at school in south-west London. The couple share son Jude who was born in 2022.

Despite his rise to become one of England’s biggest football stars, Lauren has largely kept a low profile, making only occasional public appearances alongside her long-term partner.

She was among the families supporting Thomas Tuchel’s squad during England’s World Cup campaign, after the manager relaxed previous restrictions on players spending time with their loved ones during major tournaments.
