BENGALURU: Stray dog lovers of Mysuru city can now feed dogs in their vicinity at dedicated stray dogs feeding zones established by officials of Mysuru City Corporations at some selected locations in the city and in coming days, officials assure to initiate steps to improve the feeding zones such as maintenance of cleanliness, placing bowls among others.

Mysuru City Corporation Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif did not respond to the repeated calls while an environmental engineer attached to City Corporation told Deccan Chronicle on Sunday explained it all began a month and half back when an animal lover who regularly feeds strays dogs in Jayanagar behind Tree Park and a spot was identified for the animal lover including others to feed stray dogs.

“A couple of places in the City limits were identified and places signboards for animal lovers to feed stray dogs. In coming days more stray dogs feeding zones would be identified and establish feeding zones,” said the environment officer while assuring to create facilities such as clean surroundings, providing bowls among other facilities.

“Some locations are suitable for feeding zones but others not since these locations witness vehicular movements,” the officer said and stated “We have in mind to set-up at least one stray dog feeding zone in every ward under Corporation limits.”

An official attached to the department of animal husbandry said “There are no guidelines on establishing feeding zones as such. But, the feeding zones should be away from human locations and should not disturb the vehicular movements.”

Continuing the officer “The Corporation officials identify the spot after finding the location feasible but feeding stray dogs does not mean offering leftover spicy foods/stale foods which could pose health problems.”

“Nobody stops an individual from doing social service such as feeding stray dogs but it should not pose a threat to humans,” the animal husbandry officer said.

A resident of Vidyaranyapuram Lakshmi Krupa, an animal lover, welcomed the feeding zones for stray dogs and stated that such a step was needed from the City Corporation. She stressed officials concerned to create awareness since many animal lovers are unaware of such a facility available in the city to feed stray dogs.
