Lily Allen has made a public appearance in a stunning mesh dress as her ex husband David Harbour calls her album West End Girl, which charted the downfall of their relationship, ‘weird’

Lily Allen took to a red carpet in a stunning mesh dress as her ex husband David Harbour slammed her album about their relationship as “weird”. Lily’s most recent album West End Girl took the world by storm and covered the downfall of their marriage as they tried non-monogamy.

Just hours after an interview her ex did where he spoke about the album for the first time, Lily attended the Royal Academy of Arts summer party in London. She turned up to the star-studded even in a fitted, black maxi dress that was made of a mesh fabric and showed off her figure.

She paired the look with a lilac feather boa and white platform heels. She posed for pictures with her friend and stylist Marco Capaldo, and the two were joined at the event by Claudia Winkleman, Pixie Geldof, Alex Jones and Munya Chawawa.

Lily took over the charts with her latest album. The lyrics in several of the songs on West End Girl pointed to moments in her relationship that she seemed to suggest were ultimately behind her divorce. In particular, the song Madeline, saw Lily’s lyrics accuse ex husband David of having a three year affair with a woman he knew, which contravened the rules of their open marriage.

According to the lyrics, their “arrangement” had to “be discreet” and not “blatant”. There also “had to be payment” and “it had to be with strangers”. Lily has said the album was “a mixture of fact and fiction” but many have viewed it as a primarily honest account of what happened between the two of them.

At the time, David did not speak about the album and the accusations. But in a recent interview with Variety, he slammed the album as “weird” and said it was not true to his experience of their marriage.

He said: “‘It was weird. I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that. I can’t really say that much more, because it’s my private life.”

The star went on: “In spite of the fact that a lot of people don’t allow me a private life — I value it. And I also value the lives of the people that I interact with privately. I just won’t speak about that. Stories are complex, and that’s why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn’t my experience.”

Lily has told fans not to take her lyrics as “gospel” but the album is not the only dig at her ex husband, who she also seemed to accuse of emotionally manipulating her into a non-monogamous marriage, that she has taken.

In March, she wore a gown made of receipts for things her partner allegedly bought other women. Lily unveiled the look during her performance of the track 4Chan Stan, a song about his infidelity.

Among the alleged purchases were receipts from tequila bars and the luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman. The latter is a direct nod to one of her recent lyrics, which sees her sing: “Never been Bergdorf’s, but you took someone shopping there on May 24. You bought her a handbag. It wasn’t cheap. I was in London. Probably asleep.”

Following her split, she confirmed she is dating Jonah Freud. The star is 12 years her junior and the couple were recently spotted enjoying a romantic break in Rome recently.
