Visakhapatnam: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Coastal Andhra Pradesh over the next three days, triggered by a depression forming over the Bay of Bengal.
Heavy rains have already lashed parts of Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, and Tirumala, causing extensive waterlogging in key urban corridors including Maddilapalem, Hanumanthawaka, and Adavivaram in Visakhapatnam.
The weather office has issued regional alerts through September 24:
September 22 (Orange Alert): Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, and Kakinada districts are on high alert for isolated heavy to very heavy downpours.
September 23 (Red & Orange Alerts): A Red Alert has been issued for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, and Yanam, warning of extremely heavy rainfall.
Srikakulam, Parvathipuram, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Alluri, Anakapalli, and Kakinada remain under an Orange Alert.
September 24 (Red & Orange Alerts): The Red Alert continues for Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, and Yanam. An Orange Alert remains active for Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, and Krishna districts.
District administrations along the coastal belt have been placed on alert to manage civic inundation, monitor reservoir levels, and initiate relief measures where necessary.
