Karimnagar:Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to accord National Project status to the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Pranahita-Chevella Lift Irrigation Scheme.
Speaking at a public gathering in Gambhiraopet mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district, the Deputy CM reminded the central government that as per the State Reorganisation Act, Telangana is entitled to national status for one of its major irrigation projects.
The deputy CM was in the district along with other cabinet ministers Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Tummala Nageshwar Rao and Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday.
He laid the foundation stone for a compressed biogas plant by Biostratam Technologies Pvt Ltd.
He also laid the foundation for 11 new 33/11 KV electrical substations in Sircilla, Vemulawada and Choppadandi constituencies, being constructed at an estimated cost of `30 crore.
Addressing the farming community, Vikramarka emphasised the need for the Centre to support the state’s agricultural efforts. He stated that while the state government was committed to procuring every grain produced by farmers at MSP, the central government must take over the entire stock of grain collected by the state.
He assured farmers that the ‘People’s Government’ stood firmly behind them with various incentive programmes.
Highlighting a new green revolution in agriculture, the deputy CM explained that the newly launched bio-gas plant would use paddy straw as raw material.
“Farmers traditionally burn crop residue, which severely damages air quality and the environment. By supplying this waste to biogas plants, farmers can not only help protect the environment but also generate additional income from what was previously considered waste,” he said.
Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka also made a strong pitch for crop diversification and modern farming. He advised farmers to look beyond paddy and focus on high-value crops like horticulture, millets and oil palm to improve their financial standing.
“Agriculture will truly become a festival only when farmers move away from old methods and embrace modern, sustainable practices,” he said, adding that the government was determined to provide a robust procurement system to ensure farmers faced no hurdles at the field level.
