Chennai: DGP Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal on Saturday conducted a comprehensive review of law and order and crime at the district police office, Madurai. The review was attended by the IGP, South Zone, Commissioners of Police, Madurai City and Tirunelveli city; DIGs of Madurai, Tirunelveli, Dindigul and Ramanathapuram Ranges; 10 Superintendents of Police of the Southern Zone, DCPs of Madurai city and ASPs.
The DGP emphasised on effective maintenance of law and order, prevention and detection of crime, and strengthening preventive policing. Specific directions were issued for intensified action against history-sheeters, including close monitoring of their activities and cases, effective use of bail-cancellation provisions wherever warranted and sustained follow-up at police station level, a press release from the DGP office here said.
He also stressed enhanced measures for the safety and security of women, children and senior citizens, besides focused efforts towards the creation of drug-free villages with active community participation and sustained enforcement.
As part of the visit, he conducted a grievance redressal meeting, during which 65 police personnel across south zone and Madurai city submitted their petitions. The grievances were received and reviewed for appropriate action. He appreciated the smooth conduct of major events like Immanuel Sekhran remembrance day, Meenakshi Amman Temple Kumbhabishekam and Vinayakar Chaturthi celebrations. In recognition of commendable work, the DGP also presented rewards to 62 police personnel, appreciating their dedication and contribution to effective policing.
