Dhanush isn’t new to scepticism–and not losing sleep over it either. His upcoming film Kara, set for a worldwide release on April 30, 2026, has been in the spotlight not just for its content but for its title. From the moment it was announced, the name sparked mixed reactions, with many questioning whether it had the right ring to connect with audiences.

At the trailer launch on April 19, Dhanush addressed this chatter head-on. He pointed out that this isn’t unfamiliar territory for him. Films like Velaiilla Pattadhari and Thiruchitrambalam also faced early skepticism—especially around their titles—but went on to become major box office successes. For Dhanush, that initial doubt has almost become part of the journey.

Interestingly, the film was originally planned with the title Kara Saamy. Due to certain constraints, the team dropped it and settled on Kara, a suggestion from the producer. Dhanush made it clear he was always confident about the final choice.

What’s changing the narrative now is the trailer. The response has been largely positive, and the focus is gradually shifting away from the title controversy to the film itself.

Directed by Vignesh Raja, Kara stars Mamitha Baiju alongside a strong supporting cast including Jayaram, Suraj Venjaramoodu, K. S. Ravikumar, Karunas, M. S. Bhaskar, Prithvi Pandiarajan, and Lal.

Right now, Kara seems to be moving past the noise—towards what ultimately matters: how it connects once it hits the big screen.
